Gabby’s story

St. Mary’s School, Cambridge

I come from a single parent background, with a hardworking mum who has taught me to always make the most out of every opportunity that I have been offered. This is something I have done to the best of my ability through the opportunity presented to me by the Royal National Children's SpringBoard Foundation. Through being a SpringBoarder and attending St Mary’s School, Cambridge, I have learnt to be more confident and independent both in and outside of my studies. I have learnt to approach my learning in a different way, seeing how even the most anxious of activities are essential in helping me to develop crucial skills in the future.

Given the opportunity, I would love to study business at university. I have always been taught that things don’t come for free and everything is dependent on hard work. Being the first person in my family to go to university, I also aim to set a good example to my younger brothers and sisters and inspire them to always strive to be the best they can be, whether it be in their education or their personal lives.

I have always been an avid learner - whenever opportunities came my way, I have always made the most of them, such as being Head Girl, a Senior Prefect and a Boarding Prefect. I have and will always aspire to be more and aim high in my studies. I always strive in every aspect of my education to reach the best of my ability, understanding its importance to my future goals. Achieving a degree in business has always been the next step and I am looking forward to embarking on this journey and challenging myself along the way.

I can confidently say that going to a boarding school through RNCSF has changed my outlook on education and has made me even more grateful for it than I was previously. My social skills have improved immensely, helping me to be more confident and to take on more leadership roles within my school, such as leading sports teams, debate teams, subject project teams and other extracurricular activities. I hope that my next step of going to university will give me an opportunity to thrive even more."
