RNCSF featured on Channel 4 News, highlighting growing concerns about the number of care-experienced young people who are not in education, employment or training (NEET) and how scaling the use of boarding and independent school places provides a ready solution.

Where only 2 in 10 children in care secure good GCSE passes in English and maths, 7 in 10 SpringBoarders did so last year. Where almost 4 in 10 care leavers are NEET by their 21st birthday, 7 in 10 care-experienced SpringBoarders progressed to university, while none from our most recent cohorts are NEET.

John Roberts is a passionate advocate for improving the circumstances facing children in care, and his support for our work highlights how this approach could be scaled significantly with government backing. Our SpringBoard bursary access programme works closely with local authorities, schools and community organisations to help children and young people access life-changing places at boarding and independent day schools. We support young people and their families throughout the application process and beyond, helping them make the most of the educational opportunities, pastoral care and wider enrichment available across the sector.
