"I was a founding Trustee of The SpringBoard Bursary Foundation. When I was Chairman of Rugby School we were determined to provide full bursaries to disadvantaged children for whom the pastoral care of boarding and great education provided a unique, life transforming experience. Our success in doing this, with support from many inner-city charities, led us to believe that we should form a new charity to work with all other independent and state Boarding Schools to transform the life chances of many more disadvantaged children. SpringBoard, now merged with RNCF, was the result."
